Help on reading PDF Files

Your web browser, Adobe Reader or Preview on Mac can be used to read PDF files.

PDF INSTRUCTIONS. A Portable Document File is a digital document that can be opened and read on most computers using your computer browser or the appropriate software (we've used ADOBE ACROBAT READER, as an example app, there are others).

On a PC, If you click on the link the file will open in your browser window giving you the choice of reading, printing or downloading it to your computer. It your browser setting says "open PDF using an app", you will be at step 4.

  1. Click on the link to the document which opens in  a new browser window. Select “Download” or "Print".
  2. For "Download", save the document to your hard drive. You may want to make a note of where you saved it.
  3. Go to the location where you saved the PDF file, open by double clicking on the file name.
  4. Otherwise, open Adobe Reader. When Adobe Reader is open, go to File, then to Open, then navigate to where you saved the document. Double-click on the document to open it.
  5. You can now read or print the document.

On Mac computers, the default application for viewing PDFs is Preview. While this might allow you to read PDFs on a Mac, you’ll only be able to view them and won’t have access to any dynamic or interactive elements. You can view PDFs and images in Preview on Mac and change how documents are shown.

If you want to use dropdown menus, or sign PDFs, it’s best to open the file with software designed for PDFs, see below.

  1. Select the PDF and click File, then Get Info.
  2. Choose the application you want to use to view the PDF. You can use OPEN WITH option.
  3. Click Open.

For a Mobile or tablet, get free Acrobat reader for Mobile from Google Play or Apple App store.
